Researchers from the Netherlands studied the effects of having sustainability-themed interactive signage and displays in a supermarket, and how it might influence a customer’s purchasing choices. The digital displays provided education on sustainability and labeled certain products as sustainably sourced. Their case study was published online in the International Journal of Retail & Distribution Management.
The results were that store visitors extensively used the interactive displays, and sustainability information through digital displays triggered consumers to think more about environmental concerns. What do you think? If you saw digital signage in supermarket displays showing how specific produce was farmed and how it is a more sustainable choice, would you be more likely to consume it?
