Did you know that fruits and vegetables you eat today have less nutrients than those in 1950? The nutritional values of some commonly loved vegetables, from asparagus to spinach, have dropped significantly since then. A 2004 US study found that important nutrients in some garden crops are up to almost 40% lower than they used to be 70 years ago.
Scientists say that the root of the problem lies in modern agricultural processes that increase crop yields but disturb soil health.“Most people know that what we eat matters—if how our food is raised also matters, it opens a new, compelling reason for the average person to care about agricultural practices,” says David Montgomery, a professor of geomorphology at the University of Washington in Seattle.
Nowadays, mass production of foods, which contain a lower level of proteins and nutrients, pale in comparison to what we were getting out of our traditional foods many years ago. The crops that we produce and the nutritional values we take as humans clearly impacts us as individuals. Our focus at Earthmade is to make sure that plants, food, soil and people ALL stay healthy. Growing crops with zero chemicals offers a solution to many worldwide food crises, and is the first step toward a wholly healthy world.
